Day One – Nazareth, Church of the Annunciation

Nancy enjoyed the museum at the Church of the Annunciation, located over the accepted site of where Mary and Joseph lived. Our guide described the many basilicas and churches that had been build and destroyed over the centuries. They recently found 5 capitals buried nearby, that were removed by the crusaders upon the church’s immediate threat by the Berbers. The art inside the Church centers on Mary as Theotokos – the God-bearer. Depictions of Mary from many different countries and cultures are expressed both inside the church and in the colonnade outside.
